The Illinois State Board of Education, Illinois Campus Compact and The Center: Resources for Teaching and Learning are co-sponsoring the 2011 Illinois State-Wide K-16 Service- Learning Conference on Tuesday, March 22 at the Tinley Park Convention Center.

Service-learning is an instructional method in which students learn and develop through active participation in thoughtfully organized community service. This one-day conference will be of interest to K-12 educators and students, university staff and community leaders already involved in service-learning, as well as others who want to learn more about this very effective method for promoting academic learning, social/emotional development and student civic engagement.

The conference will include general sessions and breakout sessions designed to celebrate the achievements of students, staff and community partners in service-learning projects across the state and to promote continuing program improvement.

The registration fee of $75 for adults and $50 for students includes continental breakfast, lunch and all conference materials. The program is scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with check-in and continental breakfast available at 8:00 a.m.
