Service-learning is an instructional method in which students learn and develop through active participation in thoughtfully organized community service. This one-day conference will be of interest to teachers, students and community leaders already involved in community-based, school-based, or higher education level service-learning; as well as others who want to learn more about this very effective method for promoting academic learning, social/emotional development and student civic engagement.

Featured speakers will include Dr. James Kielsmeier, President of The National Youth Leadership Council and Illinois Lt. Governor Pat Quinn.

The agenda will include general sessions, breakout sessions and student exhibits designed to celebrate the achievements of students, staff and community partners in service-learning projects across the state and to promote continuing program improvement. A complete conference agenda will be available on line by October 12, 2007.
