We look forward to partnering with the IRC for many years to come.”

Tetsuro Mitani, Executive Director of the JCCC and Secretary/Treasurer of the JCCC Foundation

“Attending classes at the IRC was an eye opening experience into the world of EL/Bilingual learners. It has inspired me to teach with strategies and a social justice perspective that ensures all students receive an equitable education.”

Tracy Sohn, Teacher, Chicago Public Schools and featured in the film documentary No Small Matter

“Ten years ago, I took my first ESL/Bilingual endorsement courses with the IRC and attended critical professional development sessions to support my Dual Language teaching career. Now, as the Director of English Language Learners for School District U-46, I have been able to gain a more global perspective on how IRC positively impacts school districts and the field of education as a whole.”

Griselda Pirtle, Director of English Language Learners, Elgin Area School District U-46

“Our district has enjoyed an ongoing, supportive relationship with the IRC since 2014. We began with technical assistance to improve our programming and have grown to a professional development series to develop a strong mission, vision, and critical actions to create a system that positively supports our biliterate students and community.”

Melody Becker, EL and Modern Language Director, J. Sterling Morton High School District 201

For the last 5 years, the Illinois Association for Latino Administrators and Superintendents (IALAS) and the IRC have formed a collaborative relationship, which foments not only a deep understanding of the needs of teachers, serving in a multilingual environment, but also administrators serving the needs of their staff in multilingual and multicultural districts. We are proud to call ourselves partners.

“We’ve partnered with the IRC to offer on-site endorsement courses for over five years. It has been a powerful support to our teachers in meeting the needs of diverse English Learners in their classrooms. Having the courses on site allows our staff to foster connections across buildings. Teachers have shared that they have developed a deeper understanding of their students’ background and experiences, have more strategies at hand to support their students and feel more confident in their ability to support and serve their students.”
